this blew my brain too. as i understand it, trans is an umbrella between cis male and cis female.
it's not just "transitioning" "medically" -- aka changing genitalia
some people change genitals, some people don't. some people are fluid, some folks are fixed. it doesn't matter. it's a liminal state.
the main thing is that you respect someone's identity, regardless of whether or not you understand it.
